I started looking for something that would help… But nothing really did.
The first solution was energy drinks and quick-fix focus pills. They would give me a short burst of alertness, but I’d always crash harder afterward. I stopped taking them—the mental haze came back in full force.
Not to mention the toll they were taking on my sleep and the jittery side effects.
Naturally, being an expert in my field, I tried to focus on mindfulness and meditation… However, I couldn’t do it properly, and unfortunately, the nearest retreat was more than an hour away.
Complex journaling didn’t help either… I mean, on some days, I could barely think straight.
I even resorted to generic herbal teas, which sadly didn’t help.
The anxiety was overwhelming. I would wake up every morning thinking, “Is the rest of my life going to be spent struggling to focus, barely being able to articulate a thought?”
It was terrifying.
